MOSCOW, Aug 9 (Reuters) - An unidentified man hijacked a

Russian aircraft with 97 passengers on board at Moscow's

domestic Domodedovo airport on Sunday, Interfax news agency

said.

Interfax said the TU-154 plane had arrived from the Siberian

city of Ust-Ilimsk but did not say which airline it belonged to.

The agency said the hijacker was demanding money and to be taken

to an undisclosed destination.

The Emergencies Ministry press office spokeswoman contacted

by telephone later confirmed the incident saying it had started

at 10.50 a.m. (0650 GMT).

"The hijacker sent a message demanding cash and threatening

to blow up plane," she said. "It is not clear how serious the

threat is."

"A Federeal Security Service officer is now on board

negotiating with the hijacker," she added.

There have been several hijacking attempts at Russian

airports in the past two years. Most have ended peacefully with

amateurish hijackers surrendering to police within hours.
