MOSCOW, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Russia's central bank denied
market rumours on Friday that the rouble had been devalued or
that such a move was being considered.
"The central bank declares, with all responsibility, that a
rouble devaluation is out of the question," central bank
spokeswoman Irina Yasina told Reuters.
Russian financial markets have been rife with speculation
about a rouble devaluation for months, but President Boris
Yeltsin ruled it out earlier on Friday.
The central bank says a devaluation would not solve any of
the problems facing the government as it grapples with financial
crisis.
